it's a radical thought, to be sure, nevertheless...

I have determined that the most Disciplined people are not necessarily experiencing any personal growth and development.

Have there been in your experience, things that are in peoples lives that do show this?

but of course I think an expanded definition of what you mean here by the word Disciplined is required. Then JJ will know more the angle you are coming from.

by disciplined I refer to following schedules and plans and organizational adherence in all things. like budgeting to the penny (needing a receipt for 1 copy at kinkos for instance). planning to the minute. you know a compulsive need for perfection in everything.

I am NOT saying that all displined people are rigid and stagnant. And I am not insulting people who do these things because there are things in my life that I almost need to have perfection in.

It just seems to me that a lot of the time there is that stagnancy in the lives who are the most rigid in so many parts of their lives. No Growth or change...

Am I perfect? ummm no. but the temptation to become one of those uber-disciplined people in order to make my life more fertile ground for growth and maturity caused me to see that these are not always the result.

It requires a real balance of discipline in some things... in particular in anything where it effects others' lives around you, and the ability to stop and turn on a dime, change your mind or motivation or thoughts or feelings in order to improve your life thought by thought.

When every physical aspect of your life (your home, your time, your wallet) is perfectly aligned, what reason is there to strive for more and more, better and better? It's fine and dandy to just float along because everythings cool, and besides you're so busy planning, budgeting and cleaning you don't have time to get into the spiritual, philosophical depths of your life.

I don't quite know if this is getting across the way I mean... but oh well.

Yeah that makes sense. So see JJ? It's exactly what I thought.. which is why the word disciplined in the post deserved a capital D.

Like how Americans are Patriotic.

Interesting... I kind of see what you mean. But I believe a lot of it has to do with WHY they are being disciplined.. the root reason that motivates their action. Obviously in order to really be disciplined it takes a lot of convincing.. and the if its something that is logical and beneficial then I believe that those disciplined ppl know why they are doin what they are doing and they do evolve. but if its a mindless action then its pointless and indeed stagnant.
